BENGALURU: On Thursday, hours after women and child development minister Laxmi Hebbalkar said that eligible women heads of families could begin submitting their applications online for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme from Friday, she did a U-turn saying that they had decided to defer receiving applications by 4-5 days.

She said the government expects as many as 1.3 crore eligible beneficiaries to apply for the Rs 2,000 a month scheme, and it will take 4-7 minutes to submit the application online. “So we have decided to expand the application submission centres beyond Grama One, Karnataka One, and Bengaluru One centres to Bapuji Seva Kendras and Nada Kacheris,” said the minister.

No last date to file applications for scheme

Hebbalkar said they are also in the process of creating a new application for the purpose, which will be ready in the next few days. “We want to roll out the scheme in a systematic manner, and therefore decided to postpone it,” she added.
