New Delhi: Electronics and Technology Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that Tata Group will start manufacturing Apple iPhones in India for domestic and global markets.
The Board of Directors has held a meeting regarding the purchase of Wistron Corporation, a major supplier of Apple, and the Minister has shared a copy of its resolution.
Posting this on social media X, he said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary PLI scheme has already made India the most reliable hub for smartphone manufacturing and exports. In just two-and-a-half years from now, Tata said the company will start producing iPhones from India for the domestic and global markets.
Hearty congratulations to the Tata team for taking over Wistron operations. Thanks to the Wistron team for the wonderful contributions. Apple is well positioned to build a global supply chain from India with Indian companies at its helm.
The Ministry of Electronics and Technology, Government of India has stated that it fully supports the growth of Global Indian Electronics companies, which will fully support global electronic brands who want to make India their trusted manufacturing and talent partner and achieve the Prime Minister’s goal of making India a global electronics powerhouse.
This growth underscores India’s growing manufacturing potential. In a move to change Apple’s previous strategy of selling mostly Chinese-made new devices to consumers around the world, the group will also become India’s first indigenous iPhone maker.
