What is the eligibility to get Karnataka Ration Card?


  • Applicants must meet certain eligibility criteria to get a new ration card in Karnataka.
  • Should be a permanent resident of Karnataka.
  • Families who do not already have a ration card in the state are eligible.
  • A newly married couple can apply for a new ration card.
  • Citizens with expired provisional ration cards are eligible.
  • It is important to note that issuance of new ration cards in Karnataka is based on household income and financial conditions of the family.

Necessary documents

  • Proof of residence like Voter ID, Driving License, Aadhaar Card (scanned copy)
  • Age Certificate (Scanned Copy)
  • Proof of Identity like Voter ID Card (Voter ID), Driving License, Aadhaar Card (scanned copy)
  • Family Income Certificate (Scanned Copy)
  • A recent passport size photograph of the applicant
  • Current Mobile Number / E-mail Id
  • Self declaration and certificate issued by Ward Councillor/ Pradhan
  • Rental agreement (if applicable)
In case of absence of above mentioned documents, applications for new ration card will be rejected.

Step 1: Visit the official website ahara.kar.nic.in

Step 2: On the home page, click on the โ€œE-Servicesโ€ section in the main menu or directly click on https://ahara.kar.nic.in/Home/EServices

Step 3: Here scroll down to “E-Ration Card” option and click on ‘New Ration Card’ option as shown below
Step 4: On the newly opened page, select “Language (Kannada or English)” and then click on “New Ration Card Request” to open the page as shown below:
Step 5: Here select the card type to apply for Priority Household (PHH) for BPL Ration Card or Non Priority Family (NPH) for APL Ration Card.

Step 6: For BPL Ration Card, select the preferred household, then tick the correct option next to the question asked โ€“ Have you applied for BPL Ration Card before and want to link with this new application? Answer to
Step 7: After selecting the option, a new page for BPL Card Online Application in Karnataka 2021 will show below.
Step 8: Here select District, Taluk, Acknowledgment Number and then click on โ€œGoโ€ option to proceed to fill the Karnataka BPL Ration Card New Registration Form.

Procedure for filing Application at CSCs:


  • Application can be filed online/ Bangalore One/ Karnataka One/ Private franchises/ Janasnehi Kendra/ Grama Panachayath/ POS shops.
  • Applicant and the family members to be added need to provide Aadhaar based bio-metric
  • authentication at the stage of filing application. For children below 5 years, bio-metric
  • authentication is not required but Aadhaar card is mandatory.
  • For PHH cards โ€“ Aadhar card and Income Certificate of HoF should be provided. For NPHH cards-No other document is required except the Aadhaar card.
  • All the details i.e., Name, Photo, Age, Sex, Address, Mobile Number as appearing in the Aadhaarcard of the applicant, and his family members are copied automatically to the ration  card application.
  • At-least one member of the applicantโ€™s family should have the current address of their residence entered correctly in the Aadhaar card. If not, then at-least one member of the family should get his/her address updated to their current residence address by going to the Aadhaar Enrollment Centre
  • The mobile number to be provided should be registered in Aadhaar card. If it is not done already, then at-least one family memberโ€™s mobile should be registered in Aadhaar. But providing mobile number is not mandatory.
  • The applicant should correctly select his ward no. in urban areas and should correctly select his Grama Panchayath in rural areas.
  • The applicant can choose any fair price shop of his choice within his Taluk/City for PHH Card Type. Based on the postal code of Address to be given to Ration Card the Shop is auto assigned for
  • NPHH Card Type.The eldest female member of the household can only be selected as Head of the household as per the provisions of National Food Security Act-2013.
  • The application is sent automatically to the concerned Ward/ Grama Panchayath official for verification through computer software.
  • The concerned official visits the house of the applicant for verification and approves the ration card if the applicant is found eligible.
  • The applicant is informed through SMS at various stages i.e., Advance intimation about date of visit of the official to his place of residence for verification of his application,
  • Approval/Rejectionof his application.
  • Ration card is delivered to the doorstep of the applicant through Speed post. The applicantis
  • required to pay Rs. 70/- to the post man.

Application fee

There is no need to pay any fee while applying online for new ration card in Karnataka. However, when applicants get their ration cards from the concerned authorities, they have to pay Rs.100 to get a copy of the ration card. must be paid.

The New Ration Card is issued in a maximum of 40 Working Days by the Food and Civil Supplies
